BACKGROUND CHECK & CPR
You need to run and submit to us a background check (please check Background Check section in the GEM Course). Also, complete and submit a First Aid/CPR course valid and updated.
MINIMUM BELT RANK
Minimum belt rank required is blue belt and above by the date of the enrollment.
MINIMUM SCORE
You need to reach a minimum score of 80% in all quizzes and tests in order to be eligible for the course conclusion. You have 10 chances to retry all tests in order to get the minimum score.
IN-PERSON PRACTICAL TRAINING
Required for all blue, purple, and brown belts completing the GEM. Black Belts only need to complete the Practical Activity Report if they have no previous teaching experience.
GE JIU-JITSU 101
PRE-REQ
You must have successfully completed the GE Jiu-Jitsu 101 Course before starting the GEM Course.
RECERTIFICATION
Your certification is valid for 2 calendar years. After that initial period, you will need to re-certify with a shorter version of the GEM and resubmit your documents.

To become a Jiu-Jitsu professional at any Gracie Elite current or new locations, you need to complete the GEM.
2. What are the prerequisites for the GEM course?

3. Who needs a background check?
Everyone who wants to complete the GEM must pass the background check. Gracie Elite will give you further instructions on how to get it online. The cost of a background check is less than $20.
4. What are the criteria for disqualification due to background check?
Ineligibility Criteria for GEM Course:
The definition of "Convicted" in this context encompasses individuals who were judged guilty after a trial, pleaded guilty, submitted a plea of no contest resulting in a court's guilt determination (irrespective of the final judgment), or were granted court-supervised alternatives instead of a formal conviction.
**PROHIBITED OFFENSES:**
- **Sexual Crimes:** Any person convicted of any sexual crime is ineligible.
* Such crimes include but are not limited to: acts of child exploitation, forced sexual acts, unwarranted sexual contact, illicit sexual activities, public indecency, and others of similar nature.
- **Serious Crimes and Federal Violations:** Any conviction, regardless of when it took place.
* These may encompass acts like: intentional homicide, unintentional homicide, forceful harm, abduction, forceful theft, severe unauthorized entry, and others alike.
- **Other Federal or Serious Crimes:** Convictions of non-violent or non-sexual nature that occurred within the previous 5 years.
* This category may include crimes such as: narcotics-related offenses, property theft, misappropriation of funds, deceitful activities, placing a child in harm's way, among others.
- **Ongoing Legal Proceedings:** Those with unresolved legal cases involving any of the aforementioned disqualifying offenses will be considered ineligible. Should the case's outcome not align with the disqualification criteria outlined here, the individual may be reconsidered for eligibility.
5. Where to get the CPR certification?
We will give you further instructions on First Aid/CPR course and certification for you to register online. There are a range of options starting at $19.
6. How much time takes to complete the GEM?
Approximately 30 hours, not including CPR/First Aid course and Practical Activities.
7. Can I white belt enroll to the certification program
No. You must have a minimum blue belt rank in order to enroll in the GEM Course.
8. If I am not happy with the course, can I get a refund?
For the GEM course, we prioritize your satisfaction; hence, if you're not entirely pleased with the course content or experience, you can request a full refund within 30 days of purchase.
